Cozy wooden winter fires

It might be cold outside but this time of year a cosy fire is perfect to bring warmth and light to the surroundings. There are always days that can be spend outside even if we tend to spend more time indoors during the winter months. The more reason to provide extra warmth and conviviality. A nice winter fire is also suited for social get-togethers for families and friends.
Swedish torches
Swedish torches are not only a special eye-catcher at a garden party, but they also do an excellent job as a light and heat source because they burn vertically and are therefore more concentrated than normal campfires. Swedish torches are made from a round block of wood, into which vertical slots have been sawn in the shape of a cross. Because of the lighter and the perfect supply of oxygen through the slots, the Swedish torch ignites quickly, resulting in a beautiful burning block of wood that lasts for hours. Did you know? These torches were used by Swedish soldiers during the Thirty Years' War from 1618 to 1648. They were looking for an easy way to burn moist wood. By sawing the freshly chopped pine trees in a special way, they were able to quickly make firewood. In this way they did not have to travel long distances for firewood for their own camp.

Birch wood gives high, blue flames and has a pleasant smell. Is very easy to light and gives a very good warmth. Birch wood burns less long, but gives a very good flame height. Is suitable for fireplaces, terrace heaters and fire bowls. The mixed firewood provides a varied play of flames through a mixture of oak, beech, ash and spruce. This mixed wood gives off a little less heat, is reasonably easy to light, burns medium and gives an average flame height. Is suitable for fireplaces, terrace heaters and fire bowls. The kindling wood is pine wood that will help getting the fire going.
